Squiz University — Civil Engineering
Civil engineering at Squiz University covers the planning, design, and construction of infrastructure that communities rely on. Students learn how structures, soils, water, and transport systems work together — from bridges and buildings to roads, tunnels, and water networks.
The degree is offered at both the Sydney and Melbourne campuses. The first two years build shared foundations in mathematics, physics, statics, and materials. Later years branch into structural analysis, geotechnics, hydraulics, transport engineering, and construction management.
Duration: Four years full-time (or part-time equivalent).
Entry: Year 12 mathematics and physics are strongly recommended. Bridging subjects are available in the first semester for students who need them.
Practical work: Materials labs, site visits, surveying fieldwork, and an industry placement in the third year give students time on real projects and construction problems.
Domestic students: $9,900 per full-time year (indicative 2026).
International students: $44,500 per full-time year (indicative 2026).
Fees cover tuition only. Allow about $600–$1,000 per year for textbooks, site gear, and fieldwork travel. Eligible domestic students may defer tuition through HECS-HELP.
Year 1: Engineering mathematics, physics, introductory design, materials, and surveying fundamentals.
Year 2: Statics and dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, geology for engineers, and CAD/BIM.
Year 3: Structural analysis, soil mechanics, hydrology, transport engineering, and an industry placement.
Year 4: Concrete and steel design, foundations, construction management, electives, and a final-year design project.
Graduates work as civil, structural, geotechnical, or transport engineers in consulting firms, construction companies, local and state government, water authorities, and transport agencies. Common early roles include graduate engineer, site engineer, and design assistant. Many progress toward Chartered status or postgraduate research.
